Freebooters in the Star Lanes
Thaumalgam: Thaumalgam is an alloy of gold, platinum and dragon eggshell that is charged with magical energy, powdered, and cold-pressed into shape using high pressure. It is a soft white metal, about the hardness of gold, which glows faintly in the dark, and glitters as if there were stars under the surface. It can take an extremely high shine, and does not tarnish or corrode. Thaumalgam is not a strong metal for making structures or weapons, but has extraordinary magical qualities. It can be crafted into rods that are the core of magic-storing capacitors, an important element of geotic engines, and is useful in making certain magical items.
Some master armorsmiths have also used it to craft metal armor that resists, absorbs or reflects magic. Thaumalgam can be incorporated into any armor that is primarily metal, and provides advantage on strength and constitution saves against spells and magic abilities and resistance to damage from spells and magic abilities. A character wearing thaumalgam armor cannot cast any spells or use any magic abilities; when this is attempted spell slots or uses per day are simply wasted. In addition, a character wearing this armor cannot benefit from healing spells or otherwise gain any benefit from beneficial spells cast on him; such effects are wasted. Crafting thaumalgam armor adds 10,000 cold crowns to the cost of making the armor. It cannot be added to armor after crafting.
