Freebooters in the Star Lanes
To call the star dragon a monster is a bit of a misnomer. Star dragons are rare creatures whose size dwarfs large cities. They can be a hundred or a thousand miles long, with wingspans just as broad. Their scales, cratered from impacts with asteroids and comets and rimed with frost, are thick enough to stop any mortal weapon. No one knows what they eat, or anything about their life cycles. It is known that spotting a star dragon in the sky almost always presages a major cataclysm for a world, though the dragons themselves are not the disaster. Star dragons can speak, but have spoken to mortal beings only a handful of times in history, always to relay some cryptic message or prophecy.
